August 22-23, 2014

Yesterday we had another zoo day! Bet you're getting tired of all the zoo pictures, but I gotta get my money's worth out of that membership!

We were late getting there, the kids stayed up too late the night before and boy were they grumpy!

But, we got to see stuff we hadn't seen before because we were always past when it happened.  They got to feed this tame bird (you'll have to wait for the 3rd picture to see it ).  And they held a cup with food in it for the bird to eat.
Isis (she was too quick and I didn't get a good picture of her).

Molly:

Connell, and now you can see the bird.  Only four kids got to feed the bird, and my crew made sure they were picked.

The lions were out.  I could have gotten a really nice picture from across in front of him if we had brought the big telephoto.  Grandpa didn't bring it because he didn't want to have to haul it around.  (Likely excuse, I had the wagon which he pulled):

The moose.  I like how at our zoo, there are places where you can take pictures without the fencing getting in the way.

The beaver was out this time.  Well actually in a hollow log, but out enough.  Here he is sitting on his tail.

Now, these two following pictures I took today.  We have had a really wet August here, and I have a bumper crop of toadstools!   I found these under the tree in the side yard.  Don't look too impressive?

Here they are with Clyde's hand on one of them.  They are literally dinner plate sized!

And all that grass?  It's been a month since I've mowed because of all the rain.  Thought it would have dried out from the rain last night by now.  But no, it's still too wet!  When did that ever happen in Colorado before?

August 19, 2014 Molly's Birthday

Molly's birthday present:

I asked Molly back in June what she wanted for her birthday.  Her response was "a baking set".

Which I promptly forgot about, so last week I asked her again what she wanted for her birthday, and her response was "a baking set".  So for her 9th birthday, I got her a "sort of" baking set.

I got the brightest, most colorful measuring cups and measuring spoons I could find, a batter bowl with a red lid, and a good wisk.:

Then, I moved on to cooking.  She does like making eggs and pancakes for breakfast, so for that I bought her a purple, yes, PURPLE!, frying pan.  I just can't believe that I found a purple pan for her.  Purple is her favorite color, and then I got two spatulas, one purple and one more fuschia colored.

And then I bought her a good muffin/cupcake pan, some bright cupcake liners, and a ladybug timer so she can know when to remove her stuff from the oven.  And, I had a kids cookbook from Pampered Chef that has easy stuff for kids to fix for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks..

I don't know if she went home and fixed pancakes for dinner or not, but she is all set to be a chef!
